About Christopher
Chris Pereira has been in the Winnipeg moving industry since 2001. He started as a swamper — what the industry calls a helper — before working his way through every role that gets a truck loaded and delivered: driver, crew foreman, owner operator, operations manager, and finally VP of sales before co-founding Legacy Moving Company in November 2023.
Twenty-five years on trucks and job sites taught him that the difference between a good move and a bad one isn't the truck, the boxes, or even the crew. It's the prep work.
Day-to-Day at Legacy
Chris runs the estimate side of the business. That means site visits, in-home walk-throughs, and the administrative work that keeps commercial and long-distance jobs on schedule. He still gets on the phone with customers directly — one of the things the three co-founders committed to when they started Legacy.
What Chris Thinks Most Movers Get Wrong
Phone and online estimates are fast, but they almost always miss something that shows up on the final bill. If you haven't received an on-site estimate, there's a strong chance the quote you received is lower than what you'll actually be charged. That gap is where the unpleasant surprises on moving day come from. Chris always makes himself available to come out in person so the quote you get is the quote you pay.
The other thing Chris repeats to every customer is about protection. Unwrapped furniture picks up nicks, dents, scrapes, and marks going through doorways, onto trucks, and in transit — every time. Legacy builds wrap-and-pad time into every estimate. Amateur crews skip it because it's faster to grab and load, and that's where most damage happens. If you care about the condition of your belongings, it's not a corner worth cutting.
Memorable Jobs
On the Trucks — The Library
Around the office, it's shorthand for any job that looks intimidating on paper. Years ago, Chris's crew moved an entire library — thousands of books, every one of them packed, lifted, and shelved at the destination. Nothing since has come close. Whenever a customer worries their move is too big or too heavy, Chris measures it against that job — and almost always, it's a fraction of what the library crew handled.
From the Office — Portage District General Hospital (2025)
Legacy outfitted the entire kitchen and laundry for the new hospital build. The job meant coordinating with vendors on appliance and furniture availability, flexing delivery schedules around tight pickup and drop-off windows, and running multiple semi-trailers and crews out to Portage la Prairie every day for two weeks.
Physically, the move wasn't in the library's weight class. But keeping multiple trucks on schedule, working around tight building-access windows, and delivering flawless execution for a commercial client taught the team as much as any job Chris has run. Legacy exceeded the client's expectations — and the lessons show up in every commercial move since.
Chris's Niche
Local Winnipeg moves and alternative solutions for long-distance. While most moving companies will only pitch a single long-distance option — load it on a truck and drive — Chris builds the move around the customer's actual situation and budget. That often means cheaper options the bigger companies don't bother to offer.

Outside of Work
Chris has been with his wife since 2009, married in 2017. They share their house with three dogs and two cats. He plays soccer and basketball whenever he can, and Legacy sponsors a number of local amateur teams — the Winnipeg Goldeyes, Eastman Selects, Eastman Snipers, and the Northern Nightmare (the police and corrections baseball team that travels internationally). The board in his office is covered in thank-you notes from the youth teams Legacy has supported over the years.
