We accept cash, credit card, cheque, or e-transfer, and we don't ask for money upfront to hold your date.

What you'll want to handle yourself
- Ontario driver's licence. You'll need to exchange your Manitoba licence at a ServiceOntario location. There's a time window to do this after you move.
- Vehicle registration. Register your car at ServiceOntario within 30 days of becoming an Ontario resident.
- OHIP. Apply for Ontario Health Insurance Plan coverage as soon as you arrive so you're not caught without health coverage.
- Change of address. Update the CRA, your bank, subscription services, and Canada Post mail forwarding.
- Car insurance. Ontario rates and rules are different from Manitoba's, so line up a new policy before you register the car.
On the timing side, summer (June through August) is peak moving season. If you can move in spring or fall, you'll usually have better availability. Winter Winnipeg to Toronto moves are absolutely doable, but they need a bit more planning around road conditions through Northern Ontario. Toronto costs more. A lot more.
Housing is the biggest adjustment coming from Winnipeg. Rent and home prices in Toronto proper are significantly higher than what you're used to in neighbourhoods like Fort Garry or St. James. Many Winnipeg transplants rent for six months to a year first so they can explore the city before committing to a neighbourhood.
The GTA is big
Toronto isn't just downtown. Mississauga, Brampton, Scarborough, North York, and Etobicoke are all part of the Greater Toronto Area, and many Winnipeg families end up in one of these because you get more space for the money. If you work downtown, check the commute on the TTC or GO Transit before you sign a lease.
Transit instead of driving
Toronto has real public transit. The TTC runs subways, streetcars, and buses across the city, and most newcomers are surprised how much they stop driving. Monthly Presto passes are common. Some people sell a second vehicle before the move because the parking and insurance costs in Toronto add up fast.
Pack less, donate more
